How to Play Simple and Easy Blues Patterns

I love playing blues patterns! It is simple, easy, fun and as a guitar teacher I think every student can benefit from learning some blues. So today will be getting basic chords and adding simple ideas to make those chords more interesting to play.

Let’s start with three basic chords: G, C and D major and explore two different ways to play those chords:
blues figure 1Now let’s organize those chords in a twelve bar blues form, so the order of the chords will be:

After you master this pattern you can take the next step and add a bass line to make things a bit more interesting:
