Celtic Harp, Wool Embroidery

Celtic Harp, Wool Embroidery with Laura Berlage

Englishwork dominated embroidery stitching through the High Middle Ages, with its intricate pictorials and gold and silver embellishments. While this was traditionally worked in silk, the same techniques are both beautiful and tactile in wool. In this class, master the secrets of split stitch for both outlining and filling, with accents in satin stitch. Embellish this beautiful, Celtic harp with silver-colored goldwork techniques and beads for the tuning pegs. Previous embroidery experience is recommended.

Course Overview

• Week 2: Split stitch filling to show the grain of the wood.
• Week 3: Working shading shadows and dimensionality, as well as couching on the strings and pegs/beads.
