Wool Embroidery & Ultra Punch Needle: Knotwork Seahorse
Wool Embroidery & Ultra Punch Needle: Knotwork Seahorse with Laura Berlage
Zoomorphic (animal shape) knotwork spans both Celtic and Nordic cultures and has been a part of embroidery imagery at least as early as the Viking period. This class offers an interesting twist, adding the use of Ultra Punch Needle in the seahorse’s mane. This technique is optional (students could use stem or satin stitch instead). Explore a variety of embroidery stitches, using hand-dyed wool from the instructor’s sheep, worked on a wool ground. This is for students who have taken Laura’s Wool Embroidery Level-1 course. Contact the instructor if you aren't sure if this course is right for you.
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Participants should enroll at least two weeks before start to ensure materials kits arrive in time. If registering after this point, your kit may arrive after the first session. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.

Class Materials
Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $80 shipped to your door. Residents outside the USA will pay the difference in shipping.
The kit includes:
• Wool fabric marked with the design.
• Wool yarn for your project from the instructor’s sheep
• Chenille embroidery needle
• Paper stitch guide
• PDF download of detailed instructions with pictures
Students will also want to provide:
• Sharp thread scissors
• Ultra Punch Needle (if students are using this technique)
• 10 inch embroidery hoop. If students are using an Ultra Punch Needle, they should get a 10 inch Morgan No-Slip Hoop. This will give much higher tension than a typical wooden hoop, which is necessary for working the punch needle technique.
• Embroidery stand (optional)
